About
Our shop called Kaufman Auction retro Modern Antiques (KARMA). Specialize in mid-century modern antiques and furniture from 1950's to 1970's. KARMA is part of Kaufman Incorporated founded by Mr. David Kaufman. His main business is Granite and other natural stones which gained recognition by securing contracts with leading hotels and other high-end fashion stores including prestigious contract of redoing the facade of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

In the last decade, he developed an interest in retro furniture. His personal collection is impressive, and he splurges on fabulous finds (yes, all our stuffs are personal collections of David). Seeing the vogue for retro furniture in shops abroad and in interior design magazines, Kaufman decided to turn his interest into a business Kaufman decided to turn his interest into a business, as he saw it as a niche not yet filled in the Philippines. On the month of June 2006, he opened KARMA, most pieces are from the Philippines, but there are also 50's and 60's home and office pieces from the US and western countries as well, We carry fiber glass Saarinen chairs, Mart Stam chairs, Marcel Breuer cantilever chairs, Mies Van de Rohe Barcelona chairs, Eames lounge chairs, Scandinavian style bent wood, biomorphic chaise lounge, Knoll style seating etc. In terms of lighting, we have lucite table lamps, arch floor lamps, industrial reading lamp, Lightolier sputnik lamps, Gio Ponti style chandeliers and Austrian crystal starburst pendant lamps.

We do not limit our items to the tried and tested mid-century iconic pieces; we also have never been seen examples of Philippines Modern chairs which are truly ground breaking. We also carry very wacky pieces by Paul Evans, and the glamour disco era items like Milo Bauman style lounge chairs and Carl Springer like lacquer pieces from the late seventies.

Kaufman's thrills come from finding rare pieces, as he often hunts for them in markets. As decorative arts are his passion, he has learned to control the outspouring of emotions that normally come with discovering fantastic pieces. " Being a dealer in decorative arts, I have learned not to get attached to objects. Even if I love it, I believe something better is just around the corner," he says.
